Credentials
Karla F. González-Acosta completed her Bachelor
Degree with Magna Cum Laude honors in Public Communications from the
University of Puerto Rico in 1999, fulfilling courses in
Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Film and Design, among
others. After finishing her undergraduate studies she worked as the
designer and director for a local educational newspaper produced by
the University of Puerto Rico. She also worked with several
promotions and advertising companies in products campaigns.
In 2003, she finished Law School with Cum Laude honors from the
Inter American University of Puerto Rico. On 2004 she was admitted
to the practice and became a Bar member as well. At Law School, she
was a an associate of the school’s Law Review and published a law
review article in 2002 titled The rap music in Puerto Rico and the
freedom of expression rights (El rap underground en Puerto Rico y la
libertad de expresión), 37 Rev. Jur. U.I.P.R. 191 (2002), Westlaw
No. 37 REVJUIPR 191.
During Mrs. González’s years in Law School, she worked part time as
a legal assistant in MPV Law Offices gaining recognition for her
accomplishments from all the attorneys, thanks to the quality of her
work and quick learning of all the duties and legal aspects. After
graduation from Law School, she was hired as a law clerk for a judge
in the Appellative Court of Puerto Rico, and became his best work
resource due to her deep and accurate research and writing skills.
In 2005, Karla was accepted in the Intellectual Property LL.M.
program at The George Washington University Law School, which is
ranked second in the United States for this specific subject. She
completed courses in Copyright Law, Patent Law, Trademark Law,
Entertainment Law, Art Law, Cyber Law, Licensing IP, Mass and Media
Law, Communications Law Policy, and a seminar.
After completing the LL.M., Karla returned to Puerto Rico and worked
for different law firms as an of-counsel attorney in the
Intellectual Property field, especially in the Copyright,
Entertainment and Trademarks areas.
Mrs. González-Acosta is associated with attorneys in countries
around the world including the European Union, China, Brazil, India,
and several countries in Central and South America.
